Often it is the case that after a few months you start thinking about what else you can do in order to help you conceive. Well here are some tips that you can use to start off with:
* Take your prenatal vitamins - and that means both of you. There are vitamins that are recommended for men and women in order to increase the quality of the sperm and to improve the fertile cervical mucus that is there to aid the sperm to meet the egg.
* Use a pro-fertility lubricant. There are a few options around and these can help also in giving the sperm a great environment in which it can travel towards the egg and possibly even survive longer.
* Use an ovulation testing kit - if you know for sure when you are ovulating then you will have a better idea of when the best time to have intercourse is. Correct timing will give you an increased chance of conception.
* Cut down or cut out cigarettes and alcohol. This has been shown to have an adverse effect on getting pregnant and is also much better for yourself and the baby.
* Keep an eye on your weight - whether that be a BMI that is too high or too low, either can affect your chances of getting pregnant.
* Try using soft cups after sex to keep the sperm near the cervix. There is evidence to suggest that women who have used soft cups have got pregnant within a few months. Although this evidence is anecdotal it is one more thing that you can try that may well help.
Obviously if you do not get pregnant within the first year of trying then you should go and see your doctor so that you can get checked out. There may be underlying problems that none of the above suggestions will help with. But for a lot of couples trying to get pregnant, it is a question of waiting and continuing trying, using all the knowledge that you have at your disposal.
