There's a lot of information available that claims to give couples the power to determine the sex of their baby. While much of it has not been scientifically proven, many swear by these methods and credit them for helping design their families. Even though there's no proof that they work, none of these methods are dangerous or difficult, so for couples who really want to conceive a girl, there's no harm in trying.
Vaginal Acidity
Male sperm and female sperm thrive in different vaginal conditions. Male sperm need a more alkaline environment to survive, while female sperm can survive in both alkaline and acidic conditions. Creating a more acidic vaginal environment can decrease the amount of male sperm pursuing the egg. One key factor for influencing vaginal acidity is diet. According to Childbirth.org, foods such as legumes and dairy products favor a girl and meat and caffeine favor boys.Depth of Penetration.
The vagina is naturally more acidic near the opening and more alkaline near the cervix, so female sperm are at an advantage when penetration remains shallow. Deep penetration or insertion of sperm not only deposits male sperm in a more conducive environment, but gives them a head-start. Since male sperm naturally swim faster than female sperm, you'll want to keep penetration shallow to avoid this advantage.
Timing of Insemination
Landrum B. Shettles, MD, author of "How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby," outlines a popular method where the timing of insemination is said to greatly influence the baby's sex. According to his theory, having sex or participating in insemination two to three days before ovulation gives male sperm time to die off. The longer living female sperm then arrive right as the egg is released, resulting in a baby girl.
Orgasm
According to the Center for Genetics and Society, orgasms create an alkaline vaginal environment that favors male sperm. It also causes the cervix to move forward and dip into the deposited semen, making it likely that male sperm, which swim faster, will make first contact. Avoid orgasm during intercourse or insemination if trying for a girl.
