How to Get Through a Summer Pregnancy

If you're expecting a baby in the late summer or early fall months, you have the incredible joy of being extremely pregnant during the hottest months of the year. Hot weather can be extremely uncomfortable for pregnant women and it can be nearly impossible to get or stay comfortable. Here are some tips to help you make it through those hot summer months while pregnant.
Take cold water with you everywhere you go. You need to drink plenty of water when you are pregnant. Having water with you at all times will help you to stay comfortable and hydrated.
On unbearably hot afternoons and evenings, treat yourself to a cool bath. You'll look like a beached whale; that's what locks are for! Trust me, you'll feel much better.

Don't spend your time slaving over a hot stove. It heats up your house and only makes you even more uncomfortable. Instead, make things like cold salads, sandwiches with deli meat, and anything you can cook on the grill. Alternatively, have your husband take you out to eat...often!
On really hot days, or when you just can't get comfortable, start by getting out a fan (or two!). Now, turn on the air conditioning and head to the kitchen. Pour yourself a cold glass of ice water and wet a washcloth with cold water. Take your water and washcloth and lay down on the couch with the fans pointing directly at you. Put the washcloth over your eyes and relax!
Use light, breathable sheets for comfort. Cotton and bamboo are both good choices.
Dress in cool clothes. There are lots of stylish maternity clothes available. Don't worry if you look silly - you are entitled.
