How to Relieve Pregnant Constipation

Eat high-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables, cereal, whole grain bread and prunes. It is suggested that a pregnancy diet include 25-30 grams per day of dietary fiber.
Drink plenty of water. AmericanPregnancy.org suggests drinking "10 to 12 cups of fluids each day. It is the combination of a high fiber diet and lots of liquid that best help you eliminate your waste."
Choose a time of day, every day, to try and relieve your bowels. By going to the bathroom at the same time every day, you may train your body to have a bowel movement and relieve pregnant constipation.
Exercise about 20 to 30 minutes a day to stimulate the bowels. Walking, yoga and swimming are good, low impact exercises.

Check with your doctor about any iron supplements you may be taking. Changing your prenatal vitamin or iron supplement may ease constipation. Each brand or iron may have a different effect on your stomach. Antacids like Tums can also cause constipation during pregnancy, so watch your intake of these drugs.
