How to Know Which Days You Can Become Pregnant

The days you can become pregnant are those during and around ovulation. Ovulation occurs when an egg is released into the fallopian tube and is ready to become fertilized. An egg unfertilized be absorbed into the uterine lining and shed during menstruation.
Purchase a basal thermometer and ovulation prediction kit from your local drug store. A basal thermometer is a thermometer used to track slight body temperature changes. An ovulation prediction kit detects surges in the production of luteinizing hormone (LH) that happens about 36 hours before ovulation.
Obtain or create a chart that will be used for tracking your daily basal temperature. You can also chart this online at Fertility Friend (see resources below for a link).
Take your basal temperature according to the directions that came with your basal thermometer. You should do this before getting out of bed or talking. Record your basal temperature on your chart.
Use your ovulation prediction kit as directed by the manufacturer. Typically it is best to use this on the 11th or 12th day after the start of your last period.
Within a few months of charting, you should be able to notice a slight increase in your basal temperature around the time of ovulation. This increased temperature indicates the time when you are most likely able to become pregnant.
