Having a good prenatal nutritional diet, is no guarantee of a stress or trouble free pregnancy or birth, but it does increase the likelihood of a relaxed happy nine months of pregnancy and then a danger free birth. If you follow an effective diet while you are pregnant, it greatly increases the chances of your baby having a healthy beginning in life.
While pregnant you need to be careful of certain things, I have listed a few of these things below.
Do not drink to much caffeine.
Stay away from certain types of fish that might be high in mercury, an example of this is mackerel.
Studies have shown that if a pregnant women drinks alcohol that this can be a reason that her baby is born underweight and in some cases can even be the route cause of brain impairments in her baby.
Apart from the obvious fruit and vegetables, you should strive to not eat foods that are raw and uncooked and you should never eat meat that is either raw or that is undercooked.
Don't take a chance with yours or your unborn child's health. Follow a good nutritional program. This program does not need to consist of tasteless foods. Instead, experiment with new healthy foods and you never know you could grow to love them and substitute them long term for some of the less nutritional items you have eaten in the past. Some pregnancy programs will help you plan what type of nutrition you need and how much you should eat, and they will adjust this plan according to your natural body weight. When considering how much you should eat there are several factors to take into consideration.
1. How active you naturally are in your everyday life.
2. How much you weighed before you got pregnant.
3. What sort of exercise you do or plan to do.
4. Whether you are going to be giving birth to multiple babies i.e. twins and above.
5. What trimester of pregnancy you are in at the time.
There are certain types of foods that, if possible, should be avoided entirely. These included raw fish, raw eggs and as mentioned previously, raw meat. If you eat these foods you are making yourself more susceptible to illness. The sort of thing that you can expect to occur when you eat these sorts of foods are: diarrhea, vomiting and fever, any of these symptoms can have a direct and adverse affect on you unborn babies health, sometimes this affect can be very severe. Even if you ate these foods with no problem prior to being pregnant, you need to keep in mind that while pregnant you might be more prone to illness, so just because these foods had not affected you adversely before, does not mean that they will not make you and your baby ill while pregnant.
When planning what to eat while pregnant your program needs to center around maintaining a healthy weight during pregnancy as well as eating the right foods so that you will minimize the risk of certain birth problems, such as, poor immune system, low birth weight and developing nervous system and other common diet related birth defects.
Making sure you remain healthy during pregnancy consists of more than just planning a nutritional diet. You also have to think carefully about a good safe exercise program as well as making sure you are getting enough of the vitamins and folic acid you need to take you through nine months of pregnancy.
