The process is quite complicated contrary to the popular belief. Different types of hormones are involved and if you are not suffering from any kind of hormonal imbalance, the normal ovulation period is considered to be the most fertile days to get pregnant. Ovaries inside a female body contain eggs which mature and get released. This process is known as ovulation which is one of the major events aiding pregnancy. The egg after being released travels to the fallopian tubes where it can get fertilized by a sperm if you had sexual intercourse during ovulation. This egg disintegrates itself in case it is not fertilized by a sperm. Hence, the occurrence of ovulation holds immense importance in pregnancy.
The unfertilized egg disintegrates within 12- 24 hours of release and the body gets rid of this egg in the form of menstruation. However, the female body gives some kind of indication to figure out the period of ovulation during which one is most fertile to conceive. You can read those signs and make love to your partner to increase chances of getting pregnant. The mucus discharged through the vagina is an important sign in reading the commencement of ovulation. This discharge is termed as cervical mucus or CM. The texture of CM changes if you are ovulating and it also changes when one has conceived. The change in texture happens due to changes in the hormonal level.
You will normally notice sticky and thick mucus during ovulation prior to your menstrual bleeding. After bleeding stops, there may not be any discharge for the next 1 week. After this you will again notice cervical mucus discharged that is sticky before it gets transformed into something creamy. The CM retains this form for several days resembling milk or lotion. This can be pale yellow or white in color and is easily breakable. After this the discharge will again change color and texture and become something similar to egg white.
