Pain Relief
Apply an ice pack to the cold sore to help ease the pain and discomfort.
Take over-the-counter acetaminophen if you have a cold sore that causes pain. Unless otherwise directed by a doctor, ibuprofen is not safe to take during pregnancy.
Wait it out. Cold sores will eventually go away on their own without treatment.
Cold Sore Treatment
Rub an ice cube over your cold sore. Do this for 10 minutes every hour to prevent the virus from moving from your nerves up to your skin.
Mix cornstarch with water to make a thick paste. Pile it on your cold sore and allow the paste to dry before you wash it off. This will help clear up your cold sores.
Apply petroleum jelly to the area around the cold sore to prevent cracking and dryness.
