The Best Foods to Eat During Pregnancy

You have to remember that quality trumps quantity when you are pregnant. You do not have to force yourself to eat food thinking that your child needs it. You do have to eat a diet that is rich in nutrition because this will help build the bones, muscle and brain of your child. At the same time, this is not the right time to start or maintain any sort of fad diet because it can have disastrous consequences.
Carbohydrates are very important during this period because they provide you with much-needed energy. Even supermodels throw caution to the winds when they are pregnant and they start eating carbohydrates. You do have to be selective about the carbohydrates you eat, choosing brown over white at all times. Buy whole wheat pasta and bread only because they are good for your digestion. You should eat a lot of dried beans during this period because they are rich in proteins, folic acid and many essential vitamins. They also provide you with excellent roughage and this will help prevent constipation.

You need a lot of fruits and vegetables during this period. Keep small portions of chopped fruits in your refrigerator so that you can grab a bite whenever you feel hunger pangs or food cravings. They are incredibly rich in vitamins, enzymes and fiber, all of which you need during this period. Handfuls of dried fruits and nuts will also make quick and satisfying snacks for you. Almond and walnuts contain essential fats that are necessary for your baby's developing nervous system. Make sure that your diet has a lot of green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale. Avocados are also a great source of fatty acids. Raw foods should be washed very well so that you get rid of all dirt and parasites. Foods that are eaten unpeeled have to be soaked in order to get rid of pesticides from the surface.
